Fundraising for the MPFBC

The Military Police Fund for Blind Children relies on donations and fundraising activities to provide support to visually impaired Canadian children. This page serves to highlight some of the significant events.

CFMPA CrestCanadian Forces Military Police Academy

While undergoing Basic Military Police training (Qualification Level 3 and Military Police Officer), students are provided with a fund-raising opportunity in support of the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. While raising funds for this worthwhile charity, the students are also provided with the history of the Fund and its importance to the Branch. Their fundraising efforts are significant. Military Police at home and abroad are very active in fundraising for the Blind Fund. Below are a few examples of the significant work being accomplished.

15th Annual National Capital Region Golf Tournament

This golf tournament raised an incredible $13,000.

Canadian Military Police in Kabul hold a "spin-a-thon"

This 24 hour event raised $1,400 US.

Military Police held a fund-raising hockey tournament

Held in Valcartier, this hockey tournament raised over $1,000 for the Blind Fund.

Military Police in Shilo Manitoba raise funds

In cooperation with the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation (MPIC) and Brandon Police Service, members of Shilo's MP Detachment raise $1600 for the MPFBC.

Military Police National Motorcycle Relay Ride

In the past 3 years (2009, 2010 and 2011) the MPNMRR has raised over $45,000 for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. The 2012 MPNMRR is already in full planning mode and they hope to surpass fundraising from years past. Support this event, visit their website: www.mpnmrr.ca

14 Wing Greenwood Charity Hockey Game

14 Wing Greenwood hosted a charity hockey game in support of the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. Many thanks to the Greenwood Bombers and the Valley All-Stars who contributed their time. Over $200 was raised for the Blind Fund.

Canex Trim-A-Tree

The National Canex "Trim-A-Tree" campaign was a huge success, raising over $6,500 for the Blind Fund.

Training Development Officer runs Boston Marathon

Military Police Fund for Blind Children Represented at the Boston Marathon - Lt(N) Wayne Percey, a Training & Development Officer in the Canadian Forces has been running the Boston Marathon for over 10 years now, 5 of which have been in support of the Military Police Fund For Blind Children (MPFBC). He is an inspiration not only to the Military Police Fund for Blind Children, but also the Canadian Forces as a whole having raised over $10,000 for this worthwhile cause

Borden Naval Reserve

The Naval Reserve Training Division, Borden have been enthusiastic supporters of the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. They have raised in excess of $8,000 since 2001, including an amazing $4,500 in 2003 alone. Their efforts are truly appreciated.

Captain Neil Thomsen

Captain Neil Thomsen, 1 CMBG HQ & Sig Sqn, is raising money for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children through a series of sealed bid auctions. He is selling limited quantities of a limited edition print entitled Shadows in the Night, created by artist Rod Tribiger, a well-known artist from BC once featured by Ducks Unlimited. Neil is to be congratulated for raising over $2,000 to date for the MPFBC.

Royal 22e Régiment

The Band of the Royal 22nd Regiment (La Musique du Royal 22e Régiment) performed a benefit concert in support of the Military Police Fund for Blind Children. Through their efforts, over $2,600 was raised for the Blind Fund.

Corporal (retired) Russ "Roadrunner" Phillips

Cpl Russ "Roadrunner" Phillips - In February 1974, Cpl Phillips set a world indoor walking record, 104 miles, 2,109 feet in 24 hours. Cpl Phillips raised $680 for the Military Police Fund for Blind Children during this incredible feat.
